Idiomysis shrimp (Idiomysis sp.), also known as 's

Idiomysis shrimp (Idiomysis sp.), also known as 'sea bees' are some of the cutest and smallest things to photograph in the ocean. At only 1mm-2mm long, and constantly flitting about, makes them some of the most difficult to photograph as well. When I noticed a few large groups of them on a dive, I made a mental note to come back there - and a few days later, on my last dive in Kata Beach, Phuket, I spent 40 minutes of my dive in the silty sand, just trying to get these shots. With no strobe (just my normal handheld torch), it made it particularly difficult; more light is needed to take faster shots to better 'freeze' them in place. However, to really get better shots, I think going up to a 105mm macro lens with a +23 diopter would be required, along with a pair of strobes, which is a big expense to change to.
